IAAF Athletics World Plan

Welcome to the Athletics’ World Plan page

The IAAF Athletics’ World Plan has created a spirit of positive change and innovation that has spread throughout the entire Athletics’ family. This webpage acts to remind us of this spirit. Here, you can learn more about the Athletics’ World Plan – its development and achievements – but more importantly you can see how the spirit of the Athletics’ World Plan is alive in us all. If you want to share some of your own experiences, (development initiatives, new successful programmes, innovative event presentation ideas, etc.), contact us at worldplan@iaaf.org with a short synopsis of your story. Together, we share in the spirit of the Athletics’ World Plan.

Dear friends of Athletics,

The 2011 Congress in Daegu marked the last lap of the 2003-2012 Athletics’ World Plan. Together, we celebrated many achievements, the greatest of which is the spirit of innovation and development that the World Plan has created within our sport.

This is a spirit that has developed as Member Federations have taken inspiration from the Athletics’ World Plan and have developed their own plans, tested new boundaries and truly made a difference in Athletics around the world. This is a spirit that will keep our sport alive in the future.

This is why I’m honoured to announce the launch of a new award for Member Federations called the ‘Spirit of the World Plan Award’. This will be awarded to a Member Federation who demonstrates the spirit of the world plan in their own initiatives. You can see on this webpage that many great stories from around the world have already been shared.

As we conclude this phase of the World Plan we must take this spirit with us.

Our next plan will not only address the challenges of our future but it will also address the fact that we need a constant system within our organisation that can face these challenges and find new solutions.

I look forward to updating all of you, Members of the Athletics Family, on the development of the next phase of the World Plan in 2012 as we celebrate our centenary.
