Last weekend I competed in both the 100m and the Long Jump in the meeting of Los Angeles. It was really tough because I had less than 10 minutes to recover from the 100m. My legs were like jelly when I started jumping!
Before entering the sprint race, I really didn't know what to expect. The last major 100m I ran was the meet in Mito, Japan where I got hurt last year.
But I always do blocks and sprints as part of my training for the Long Jump. I ran the 100m, to see where I was physically
I ran 10.33. My time was okay but the problem I encountered was that there were a lot of interruptions in the 100m, and it took up a lot of precious time before the Long Jump.
But considering how I felt when I went over to the LJ, I don't think it would have mattered!
Now I know why I haven't attempted that kind of a double since 1998!
Yes! I was very disappointed by my long jump performance (last with 7.68m). My main reason for going to LA was to jump!
My approach was short of the board by more than a meter! My legs were very tired and I was only able to complete one jump in the whole competition (my last) and even that one was short of the board. It was a 7.90 plus jump, but I only got credit for 7.62m
I am putting this performance behind me and refocusing on the meet in Torino. There will be a lot of competition there, including Ivan Pedroso
This will be my first European meet in a looooong time! I will land in Italy on Thursday and jump on Friday.
Funny enough I always feel better the day after I get there. The second day is when my body is like whoa!
I like the Torino meeting because the Long Jump has always been very competitive there. I like that track a lot.
After that I will jump in Ostrava.
Talk to you then
